The Blue-Collar Bassist: How To Get Gigs & Be The Player That Everyone Wants To Hire

The Blue-Collar Bassist: How To Get Gigs & Be The Player That Everyone Wants To HireThe Blue-Collar Bassist is for anyone who wants to learn many of the skills, tips and tricks from what it takes to be a “blue-collar bassist” and be able to play anything from casuals to corporate gigs to touring with an artist.

I am a New Orleans native and veteran bass player. I’ve worked with Funk Music Legend Zigaboo Modeliste (the Meters), 80’s pop music and fashion icon, Jody Watley, Jon B., Prince Damons, Levi Seacer Jr. (Prince and the NPG), Ron E. Beck (Tower of Power), Nya Jade, and many more. But, more importantly, I have worked with countless regional artists, theatre productions, and churches. I have played more weddings than I can count. I have hundreds of nondescript, casual gigs under my belt that have paid me $100 (or $25 after you factor in learning the material, rehearsing, and gas) and given me only three hours of sleep on a Saturday so I can wake up and still make the 8:00 am church call.

I’ve shared stages with Maroon 5, Evanescence, the Dave Matthews Band, Outkast, the Black Eyed Peas, and some other acts you’ve no doubt heard of (and that I’ve never met). I have created online courses, a wealth of YouTube video tutorials, and taught countless private lessons. I have been a contributor to NoTreble.com, and I have been featured in Bass Player Magazine. I earned my B.A. in Music Performance from California State University, East Bay with a focus on Double Bass.
